For Show & Tell Friday this week I would like to share my favorite Matroyshka Doll (nesting doll) with you.
I am first generation Russian. My parents were born in Russia and escaped and fled to Persia finally making their way to America. My parents have always had a heart for their Russian family back in the Mother Land. My mom and dad decided to sell their home and become missionaries to Russia when they were in their seventies. On each of their trips back to Russia, my mom and dad would bring us back goodies from Russia. One year, they brought me back this beautiful Matroyshka doll for my birthday! She is my favorite!
This is a 15 piece Matroyshka doll. The detail is amazing even on the littlest one. This picture shows how small the littlest one is:

When I was a child I had a doll like this only not so intricate. I loved it and played with it often. Wonder what ever happened to it.

How very lovely. I bought a small set of one of these at the Kathrine the Great Exhibit when it was in Memphis and we were visiting there.
I have never seen one with as many as yours and the little one so tiny. Very special Show & Tell indeed.

That is so interesting! I have some “fake” nesting dolls that I put out a Christmas but nothing as beautiful as that.

My grandma used to travel to Russia with her husband frequently. She brought me back one of those dolls, although not quite so big! Yours is lovely. I probably should not, but I let my daughter play with ours. Thanks for visiting me today.

Those dolls are stunning! I’ve always loved them and if I collected anything it would be those. There is a store in West Edmonton Mall (at least I think it’s still there) that specialized in them. I could hang out in there for hours looking at all the detail on each different version. Stunning.

These dolls have always fascinated me as well. That littlest one is amazingly tiny! I like this feature of Show and Tell. Great blog idea.

Wow, that is really incredible. I can’t believe how tiny that smallest one is.
By the way, you asked if my son was still interested in carpentry. He is now 23 and a contractor that is in high demand. He does great work and people have shared his name with friends. He loves building and wood and beauty in homes.

i was *just* telling a friend that i learned my love for these dolls from sesame street (which i noted your reference in your “history of…” post!!!
i LOVE your 15-pc doll. amazing. i have one that has 10, and the littlest one is about the same size.
