My dear sister Ellen has solved a mystery for me today! When we were in Australia, we heard these birds that sounded as though they were conversing and laughing in their own bird speak- it was hilarious! While walking and exploring a rain forest, we came upon said birds and I took some pictures of them, wondering what kind of birds are these? Well, today my sister has answered my question! Love it! Check out her research on the Eucalyptus tree and the Kookaburra!

Hello sister-of-Ellen,
I am so glad you discovered what these birds are. I listen to them all the time as I am a girl from Downunder. Did you know that the Kookaburras laugh before it rains? It’s true. Whenever we hear the Kookaburras singing we know rain is coming. They are more reliable than the weather report! I love the Kookaburras. They are pretty special birds. I hope you enjoyed your time in Australia!

Ah, if only it were true that the kookaburra’s laugh signalled the rain. They were laughing their heads off in the trees outside my house two days ago, but it’s still dry as a bone here in Adelaide. We’re in the midst of one of the worst droughts in history, but the kookaburras still laugh – no point in crying.
A naturalist was saying on the radio that their call is to mark off their territory and let other birds know the area is occupied. There are several varieties of kookaburras; the laughing kookaburras are widespread across Australia and seem to live as happily in the suburbs as in the rainforests.
