“Under the banner of God, victory is always assured; but apart from it, defeat is a certainty.
When the banner of God’s rod was not held high, Amalek prevailed.
You can’t do battle against the flesh under your own power.”
~ Kay Arthur ~
Lord, I Want to Know You

Banner:

1. the flag of a country, army, troop, etc.
2. an ensign or the like bearing some device, motto, or slogan, as one carried in religious processions, political demonstrations, etc.

Banner:

Jehovah-Nissi – The Lord Our Banner – The rod of God – the cross of Christ lifted up.

A banner is usually associated with war and battles.  It was used to rally the troops, to encourage and to direct the army.  It was a sign of unity and a common cause – United Defiance – a way of saying, “I double dog dare you!”  This is also why it is the object of attack.  If the enemy could get the banner, they would win the war.

Jesus has already won the ultimate victory over sin and death.  He has the ultimate power over the spiritual battles we face. We must call upon that power in our battles.  We must look to Jesus and lift him up in our spiritual wars.  This means we must be prepared to fight – we must take out our banner and lift it high.

Our banner is stored in a very important box – the Word of God.  If we don’t open the Word of God, study and apply the scripture – our battle will be lost.  Jesus is our victory, but that does not mean we will not have any battles.  We must be prepared to fight as Ephesians 6 exhorts us:

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.

Be encouraged today!  Let Jesus out of the box! Look unto Jesus – Our Banner – And Fight the Good Fight.

Hebrews 2:12 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
