WFMW – Do You Dine Out Alone?   7 comments

Today is another feature of “Backwards Works for Me Wednesday” where you are supposed to ask for what works rather than share what works.  Since I am a blogger who loves her camera, I was mistaken as a food critic recently at a restaurant where I was eating alone.  It was a fun and entertaining evening!

So, I am going to ask if any of you have ever dined alone or would dine alone at a restaurant?  – I am talking about a slow food establishment not a fast food establishment!  And what would you do to entertain yourself while dining alone – read, blog, people watch?

  1. I’m married now, but even when single I doubt I’d have been comfortable dining alone without a book in front of me. 🙂 I have eaten a quick meal alone at a fast food restaurant, but it was always something fast & easy, and even then, I sometimes ate in my car. I admire you for doing it, and I hope you got some star treatment as a “food critic”!

  2. Love it! I have eaten alone in restaurants and the more I do it the less threatening it is. If I don’t have a book I’ll work on my calendar or most of the time just people watch. But the gauntlet has been thrown down. Soon I’m going to put on some nice clothes, go to a nice restaurant with my camera and do all in my power to make them think I’m a food critic!!

  3. I also enjoy a meal out by myself. I usually have a book with me, but if I don’t I concentrate on really enjoying and tasting my food (something I don’t usually do when out with the family!) People watching can also be great fun- pick a restaurant with a great view, or an outdoor patio where you can watch the world go by…

  4. I dine out alone as a single person. I used to not enjoy it, but now that I’m almost 42, I sometimes look for opportunities to eat out alone! Not that I don’t enjoy eating with friends or family; sometimes you need some ‘alone’ time out of the house. I sometakes take a book or the newspaper to entertain myself or I’ll organize my purse while waiting. Or balance my checkbook. LOL Or just people watch. I have wondered if I was ever mistaken for a food critic while eating alone!
    Hope I was helpful.

  5. I’ve never eaten in a restaurant with my camera but I did go down to a little cafe on Point Prim – to take pictures of the beach etc. And the owner came out and wondered if I was the insurance adjuster!! 🙂

Lana – what kind of camera do you have? I’m going to start saving my pennies for one!

  6. I ate at Red Lobster once by myself. That was a long time ago before kids and marriage and that’s what I wanted to I just went by myself. I read while I was there. Now I like going with my husband because it’s so rare.

  7. I LOVE dining out alone, moreso over the lunch hour. I’ve done Applebees alone on more than one occassion. I also frequent several local establishments. Typically, I will read or update my planner. I think you get much better service when dining alone. Plus, It’s quiet and somewhat relaxing!
