Father Brown Quote   4 comments

“I know the Unknown God,” said the little priest, with an unconcious grandeur of certitude that stood up like a granite tower. “I know his name; it is Satan. The True God was made flesh and dwelt among us.  And I say to you, wherever you find men ruled merely by mystery, it is the mystery of iniquity.  If the devil tells you something is too fearful to look at, look at it.  If he says something too terrible to hear, hear it.  If you think some truth unbearable, bear it.  I entreat you to end this nightmare now and here.”

From The Purple Wig – The Innocence and Wisdom of Father Brown by G. K. Chesterton.

This book has 24 mystery short stories involving Father Brown a Roman Catholic Priest.  The mysteries are wonderfully written and you find yourself admiring the wisdom and humility of Father Brown and his knack for solving crimes and mysteries.

Here’s a quote from the back cover of the book…

“For to hear Father Brown tell it, crime is a manifestation of sin: the criminal must be caught, but he or she must also be saved; the culprit has to be locked up, but the spirit must be freed.”

Good stuff!  I highly recommend this book.

You may want to consider adding it to your list for this upcoming event:

Chicago Wednesday   8 comments

Another day of meetings but who cares.  Today Steve was arriving and we were invited out for a special evening.   I met up with Steve and we did a little walking around …

We then got ready for our evening.

We were invited to dinner and concert (Grass Roots – the 70’s band – I forgot how many of their songs I knew!) on the 95th floor of the John Hancock Building.  The elevator ride to the 95th floor was 30 seconds!  That is fast and boy do your ears feel it!  Here are the views from the 95th floor…

There was a little storm that was coming in and we were able to watch it come in! Amazing!  This storm also provided some wonderful sky shots!

This morning I went to some more meetings and now we are off to REALLY explore Chicago!  More pictures to come…

Arrived in Chicago   4 comments

The view from the hotel room…

Forced exploring due to the fact that I was ready to take the shuttle to the convention center at 5pm and the shuttle was not going till 6pm – PHOTO OPP! 🙂

Found a Presbyterian church that had the most beautiful architecture, a fun statue and then headed over to the convention center for the opening event which was dinner and a Sheryl Crow concert.

Now it’s time for sleep!  My first meeting is at 7:30 tomorrow morning.

Birthday Blast!   5 comments

My birthday week was quite the busy, fun filled week!  Monday, Michelle, Ryan and Melissa took me out to dinner at the Napa Rose at Disneyland!  They were sneaky and treated me to this extravagant meal!  Thanks you guys! We finished the evening off with a cup of coffee and beignets dipped in powdered sugar while watching the firework show!  Delightful way to start the week of birthday joy!

Tuesday night was a fabulous dinner at my mom and dad’s!  The wonderful dessert shown above is a cheese and strawberry crepe with chocolate sauce!  My sisters Kathy and Vera were there along with my SIL Kelly and my beautiful nieces: Debbee, Michelle and Melissa.

Wednesday night I went to the Cheesecake Factory with Deb and Miss for the Cheesecake Factory’s 30 year anniversary special – $1.50 a slice of any cheesecake they sell!

My oh my this is going to get interesting if I keep this dining lifestyle up!

Then to top the week off, Thursday night our office had a party at Ruth’s Chris Steak House since we have 4 birthdays in July!

I think this week I will stick to salads and fruit!
